About Chipmunks Playland
Chipmunks Playland & Café is an internationally-trademarked brand that began in Port Chalmers, New Zealand and is still based there today.
Chipmunks is New Zealand’s most visited indoor play centre and the largest franchised children’s indoor adventure playground in the South Pacific. Catering to children aged 0-11 years, we host awesome children’s birthday parties and private events with many of our stores offering vacation programs and after school care. There’s something for the whole family to enjoy under one roof.
As a market leader in the industry with 21 stores across Australia, 17 centres in New Zealand and 9 stores in Indonesia, we have maintained our growth through continuous improvement and constantly adapting to new trends. Our established stores are backed with experienced staff, thorough training and dedicated support to make you feel welcome and at peace that your children are playing in a safe environment while having fun!
Young at heart, Rich in Knowledge
Now in our 22nd year of operation, we have built strong relationships with our trusted suppliers which underpins our commitment to providing state-of-the-art playground equipment and facilities that are of the highest safety and operational standards.
In addition, we have created our own brand ambassador, ‘Charlie’ the Chipmunk. Charlie helps us connect with families during visits to the store and has become somewhat of a recognised household name amongst kids. A regular request as our most popular birthday party host and also featuring on merchandise, marketing and in-store equipment.
This year Chipmunks Playland & Café celebrates 22 years of family fun!
Always looking for new ideas, Chipmunks was born after founders Lance and Kerri paid a visit to an Auckland-based indoor playground with their then, young son.
“We loved the concept, and decided to open our own unique indoor playground after noticing a gap in the market.”
18-months later in 1996, they opened their first store in Christchurch. Followed by Dunedin, Invercargill and several other South Island centres.
Chipmunks eventually expanded into the North Island market and based on their success, decided to take the company to the Australian market where Chipmunks is now synonymous with fun and value for money.
With over 49 stores in three countries and plans to open many more, Chipmunks has grown into a true New Zealand success story thanks to Lance and Kerri’s drive and vision.
